Export Specialist

Browning, an industry leader in the Shooting and Hunting Outdoor industry, located in scenic Mountain Green, Utah, is searching for an Export Specialist.  This position has responsibility for all activities related to out-bound international freight.  The ideal candidate will have a thorough knowledge of export procedures and associated U.S. State Department, U.S. Commerce Department, and U.S. Customs & Border Protection regulations. Excellent communication, grammar, writing, and analytical skills are necessary, as is a meticulous and detail-oriented work ethic to ensure quality error-free work.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

  1. Maintains shipment files, in accordance with Federal export regulations and company policies including the coordination of booking, documentation, and shipment routing per customer guidelines and country requirements.
  2. Coordinates freight shipment logistics from the warehouse or supplier to the port of export as well as shipment logistics from the foreign port to the final foreign destination.
  3. Obtains knowledge of and demonstrates ability to interpret the concepts, principles, laws and regulations that apply to:
    •  ITAR (Intl. Traffic in Arms) regulations and the application process for export licenses related to the shipment of firearms and firearm parts/components;
    • EAR (Export Administration) regulations and the application process for export licenses related to the shipment of lesser-regulated outdoor products;
    • Customs regulations and the filing of export documentation;
    • C-TPAT validation and certification.
  4. Keeps up to date on current events and regulation changes including export control reform affecting recreational and sporting firearms.
  5. Coordinates product shipments with foreign affiliates of Browning.
  6. Reviews/analyzes carrier freight bills to ensure they are correct and coded properly for accounting prior to approval.
  7. Cross trains with Import Specialist.
  8. Other duties as assigned.

COMPETENCY BASED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Readily pick up details with accuracy finding inconsistencies and mistakes.  Make detailed comparisons between similar sources.
  • Possess the ability to focus on important issues, and can regularly focus on results. Able to demonstrate a drive to exceed performance targets.
  • Present a professional and courteous persona in all customer and peer communications.
  • Work independently to organize and coordinate information/activity between co-workers, departments, customers, regulatory officials, carriers and internal customers. Display confidence and awareness of each situation using collaboration to accomplish goals and objectives.
  • Ability to manage emotions in a positive way and has awareness of strengths and weaknesses.
  • Able to identify ways to improve processes and take responsibility for improving and solving problems setting prevailing standards for work practices.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Basic Qualifications/Experience:
    • Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school, or two to four years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience with strong focus on import management;
    • Knowledge of, or demonstrated ability to obtain knowledge of, ITAR (Intl. Traffic in Arms) regulations; and
    • Knowledge of, or demonstrated ability to obtain knowledge of, EAR (Export Administration) regulations.
  • Preferred Skills:

Import Specialist

Excellent communication, grammar, writing, and analytical skills are necessary, as is a meticulous and detail-oriented work ethic to ensure quality error-free work.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

  1. Maintains shipment files, in accordance with Federal import regulations and company policies.
  2. Coordinates with third-party providers (freight forwarders, customs brokers) that handle Browning imports and provide clearance instructions to facilitate the release of shipments.
  3. Obtains knowledge of and demonstrates the ability to interpret the concepts, principles, laws and regulations that apply to:
    • ATF regulations and the application process for ATF firearm permits;
    • Harmonized tariff classification and the valuation of imported products; 
    • US Fish and Wildlife regulations and the completion of CITES and Lacey Act documentation; and
    • C-TPAT validation and certification.

  4.  Keeps up to date on current events, such as changing tariffs, and regulation changes.
  5. Reviews/analyzes carrier freight bills to ensure they are correct and coded properly for accounting prior to approval.
  6. Addresses inquiries regarding shipment delays due to Customs related issues.
  7. Cross trains with Export Specialist.
