Kinematic Drive — A5 Shotguns
Kinematic Drive in Browning Firearms
In its simplest terms, kinetic energy is the energy of motion. The Browning A5 semi-auto shotgun harnesses this energy through its powerful, short recoil-operated Kinematic Drive System.
Our innovative Kinematic Drive captures rearward recoil energy and converts it directly into the mechanical motion required to operate the action. This tried-and-true concept comes from the pioneer of autoloading shotguns. By using a clean, simple design, the Kinematic Drive ensures consistent, reliable cycling across a wide variety of ammunition loads. It performs flawlessly under extreme weather, temperature, moisture, and grime.
How the Kinematic Drive System Works
The image to the right illustrates exactly how the A5 harnesses and utilizes recoil energy through three distinct phases:
- First: The firearm remains completely at rest.
- Second: The gun fires, compressing the internal spring to store recoil energy.
- Third: Lastly, the internal spring bounces back, unlocking the bolt and cycling the action.
100,000 Round Guarantee
Browning stands behind the reliability of the Kinematic Drive, making the A5 the first-ever autoloading shotgun to offer a 100,000-round or five-year guarantee. This shotgun is engineered to perform in the harshest field conditions.
Because the system vents gases out of the barrel and away from the action, the gun runs exceptionally clean and delivers extreme load versatility.
Through rigorous testing, we proved that the Kinematic Drive reliably cycles virtually all field loads without mechanical adjustments. This includes everything from 1-ounce loads in a 3-inch chamber down to 1 1/8-ounce loads for 3 1/2-inch chambers.
