Xeno Recoil HAWG Muzzle Brake Installation Instructions
WARNING: READ AND PRECISELY FOLLOW ALL INSTALLATION AND MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS CONTAINED IN THIS INSTRUCTION SHEET AND THE OWNER’S MANUAL INCLUDED WITH YOUR FIREARM BEFORE INSTALLING OR REMOVING THIS MUZZLE BRAKE.
WARNING: ALWAYS KEEP THE MUZZLE POINTED IN A SAFE DIRECTION. PLACE THE “SAFETY” OF YOUR RIFLE IN THE ON SAFE POSITION. REMOVE THE MAGAZINE (IF EQUIPPED), OPEN THE ACTION AND MAKE CERTAIN YOUR RIFLE IS COMPLETELY UNLOADED. FAILURE TO FOLLOW THESE WARNINGS COULD RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH TO YOU OR THOSE AROUND YOU!
WARNING: PERIODICALLY CHECK THE MUZZLE BRAKE TO ASSURE THAT IT IS TIGHT AND FIRMLY SEATED. BEFORE CHECKING, FOLLOW ALL SAFETY GUIDELINES AS OUTLINED. TO PREVENT BURNS, ENSURE THE MUZZLE BRAKE IS COOL BEFORE TOUCHING IT. FAILURE TO FOLLOW THESE WARNINGS COULD RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH TO YOU OR THOSE AROUND YOU!
WARNING: THE ADDITION OF A RECOIL REDUCING MUZZLE BRAKE SIGNIFICANTLY INCREASES NOISE AND MUZZLE BLAST. YOU, AND EVERYONE IN CLOSE PROXIMITY TO THE FIREARM, SHOULD ALWAYS WEAR HEARING PROTECTION TO HELP PREVENT HEARING LOSS OR DAMAGE AND SAFETY GLASSES TO HELP PREVENT DEBRIS FROM INJURING THE EYES.
WARNING: DO NOT USE A CRUSH WASHER OR COMPRESSION WASHER. INSTALLING A SILENCER-MOUNTING MUZZLE DEVICE WITH A CRUSH WASHER OR COMPRESSION WASHER CAN LEAD TO MISALIGNMENT BETWEEN THE MUZZLE DEVICE AND THE RIFLE BORE, POSSIBLY RESULTING IN PROPERTY DAMAGE, PERSONAL INJURY, AND/OR DEATH. ONLY USE THE ALIGNMENT SHIM KIT INCLUDED WITH THIS MUZZLE DEVICE.
TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO YOUR RIFLE, THE MUZZLE THREAD LENGTH MUST BE A MINIMUM OF .40" (10.16 MM) AND A MAXIMUM OF .43" (10.92 MM) FOR RIFLES WITH M13X.75 AND M13X1.25 THREADING AND A MINIMUM OF .40" (10.16 MM) AND A MAXIMUM OF .62" (15.74 MM) FOR RIFLES WITH 1/2"X28 AND 5/8"X24 THREADING.
NOTICE: BE AWARE THAT THE POINT OF IMPACT OF YOUR RIFLE MAY CHANGE AS THE HARMONICS OF THE BARREL ARE AFFECTED WHEN ADDING A MUZZLE BRAKE AND/OR SUPPRESSOR DUE TO CHANGES IN WEIGHT AT THE MUZZLE.
NOTICE: BROWNING RECOMMENDS TAKING THE XENO RECOIL HAWG TO A QUALIFIED GUNSMITH FOR INSTALLATION.

INSTALLATION
INSTALLATION
- Completely unload your rifle according to the instructions found in your owner’s manual.
- Place your rifle in a gun vise, on a table, or other safe/secure location with the top of the receiver upward. Protect the finish with rags or other padding..
- Remove any muzzle brake or thread protector from the threaded end of the barrel.
- Clean the threads, muzzle face, and barrel shoulder with a gun cleaning solvent and lightly oil the threads.
- Thread the Recoil Hawg muzzle brake clockwise onto the barrel until the rear of the brake sits securely against the barrel shoulder. The Recoil Hawg logo should be facing up (at the 12 o’clock position). If the Recoil Hawg is correctly aligned, use a torque wrench and 13/16" crowfoot wrench and torque the muzzle brake to 25-35 foot-pounds.
- If the Recoil Hawg logo is not facing up (at the 12 o’clock position), remove the Recoil Hawg and try a combination of shims of various thicknesses between the barrel shoulder and the rear of the brake (placing thicker shims against the barrel shoulder) to clock the Recoil Hawg to the correct position. Increasing shim thickness will rotate the Recoil Hawg counterclockwise, while decreasing shim thickness will rotate the device clockwise. NOTE: For rifles threaded M13x.75 and M13x1.25, place the shim or shims in the counterbore of the muzzle brake prior to installing the muzzle brake on the barrel.
- To ensure the muzzle device is level with the rifle, use a spirit level. When correct alignment is achieved, torque the Recoil Hawg to 25-35 foot-pounds.
THREADLOCKER
THREADLOCKER
Some gunsmiths apply Rocksett™ Muzzle Brake threadlock to the threads of the barrel when installing a muzzle brake. However, Rocksett may increase the difficulty of removing the Recoil Hawg muzzle brake.
NOTE: To apply Rocksett threadlock effectively, ensure the threads are free of any oil or solvent residue.
REMOVAL
REMOVAL
- Completely unload your rifle according to the instructions found in your owner’s manual.
- Place the barrel of your rifle in a gun vise with the top of the receiver upward. Protect the finish of the barrel with soft vise jaws, rags, or other padding.
- Using a 13/16" crowfoot wrench, turn the Recoil Hawg counterclockwise until it is free from the barrel. Remove any shims if applicable, making note of the shims used to make re-installation easier.
