Plus Magazine System
What is the Browning Plus Magazine System
Browning developed the Plus Magazine System, an extended, single-stack polymer magazine and bottom metal for the X-Bolt line up. This system increases the rifle's total cartridge capacity by two additional rounds, depending on caliber, and uses patented shoulder retention to ensure accuracy.
Why Should Hunters and Shooters Install the Plus Magazine System
1. Round Capacity
- The capacity of the rifle can increase by two additional rounds compared to standard rotary magazines.
- Plus Magazine System holds up to five or six cartridges total, depending on the caliber.
- Additional magazines are slim and easy to carry in a pocket.
2. Shoulder Retention System
- Both Browning Plus and Rotary magazines feature Browning's patented shoulder retention system.
- This system ensures that the bullet's tip is suspended and protected from striking the front of the magazine during recoil.
- Preserves ballistic integrity and bullet tips for unmatched accuracy.
3. Center-Feeds Rounds
- Ammunition feeds directly from the center of the magazine.
- Ensures cartridges travel straight into the rifle chamber to prevent damage to bullet tips.
- Limits left-to-right binding or feed friction.
Why Does Protecting Bullet Tips Matter
When a high-powered rifle recoils, cartridges inside a standard magazine travel forward. The fragile tips of heavy hunting bullets and polymer-tipped ballastic rounds can strike the front of the magazine and deform.
Deformed bullet tips alter the aerodynamic drag of your ammunition, causing erratic downrange flight and opening up groups. The Plus Magazine System's shoulder retention stops bullets from shifting forward, anchoring the cartridge case by the shoulder so bullet tips remain pristine.
Plus Magazine Construction
The body of the Plus magazine is constructed from a durable, lightweight polymer. For added longevity and feed reliability, the top section that includes the feed lips is metal. An anti-tilt follower design also improves feed reliability. The base plate is removable for easy cleaning.
