Cerakote
Cerakote is a premium polymer-ceramic composite coating that Browning applies to select X-Bolt, AB3, and T-Bolt rifles, as well as to A5 Wicked Wing, Maxus II, and Cynergy Wicked Wing shotguns.
Cerakote beats traditional bluing by providing industry-leading protection. It protects firearms from scratches and rust. This makes it the best choice for hunting in wet and rough environments.
Why choose Browning firearms with Cerakote finish?
Hunters who operate in wet, humid, or abrasive environments see firsthand how Cerakote provides a superior alternative to traditional bluing. It significantly enhances the physical properties of their rifle or shotgun, focusing on:
- Corrosion Resistance: Maximum protection against rust and oxidation.
- Wear & Abrasion Resistance: Protects against scratches and field use.
- Chemical & Impact Strength: Maintains finish integrity under extreme conditions.
- Hardness: Increases the firearm's surface durability.
Browning products that utilize Cerakote on both metal components and stocks ensure "hunt-ready" durability.
Corrosion Testing (ASTM B117)
The ASTM B117 Salt Spray Test proves that Cerakote leads the industry. In this test, experts subject coated panels to harsh conditions that simulate what hunters face in the field.
Testing Process
- Environment: Cerakote panels are placed in an enclosed chamber at a 15–30 degree angle.
- Solution: The testing equipment continuously sprays a neutral (pH 6.5-7.2) 5% salt water solution onto the panels.
- Conditions: The system keeps the chamber at a constant 95°F (35°C) with a fogging rate of 1.2 ml/hr.
