Back-Bored Barrels
Back-boring increases the diameter of the bore to its maximum allowable specification. When compared to a standard barrel, this small amount of relief greatly reduces friction between the shot pellets and the barrel wall, allowing more of the energy generated by the powder to propel the shot pellets to a higher velocity. Reduced constriction or pressure from the forcing cones on the shot pellets also results in more ballistically superior, round pellets and fewer deformed pellets for more uniform patterns and more shot pellets in the effective part of the pattern.
Back-boring works hand-in-hand with Browning’s Invector-Plus™ interchangeable choke tube system. The longer choke taper inside an Invector-Plus choke tube produces patterns with more uniform densities. The Invector-Plus system includes a broad range of chokes from Cylinder to Full, in addition to specialized tubes, including X-Full Turkey tubes.
