The production of the B-78 High
Power rifle began in 1973. In 1976 the was a "Bi-Centennial Model"
was produced.
The B-78 was discontinued in 1982.

In 1969 Browning started using two
digits for the date of manufacture:
W=B78 High Power Rifle
This was preceded by the serial number beginning with 1000 for each year.
Example: 100073W = A 1973 B-78 high power rifle with a serial number of 1000. |

In 1976 Browning standardized its
serial number identification which it followed until 1998. Also in 1976 Browning releases
a "Bi-Centennial Model" with the code: 1776
