Wihongi Knives

"The Maori designs on the Wihongi Signature line of blades are intended to honor the warrior spirit that lives in each of us." -Jared Wihongi

“My interest in the warrior way of life stems from my Maori heritage, once a Spartan-like society that developed over centuries of inter-tribal warfare in what is now New Zealand.

“The spirit of the Maori warrior is expressed in the ritual Haka, a war dance that’s intended among other things to challenge and intimidate an enemy. Other conspicuous Maori symbols are stylized tattoos and carvings. These decorations are often added to their weapons to represent a warrior ancestor and thus you carry their strength and courage with you into battle. The Maori designs on the Wihongi Signature line of blades are intended to honor the warrior spirit that lives in each of us.

“I have grown up as a martial artist and a student of the Filipino fighting system Pekiti-Tirsia Kali, which specializes in both edges and impact weapons. For the last two decades, I’ve been to almost every corner of the globe, teaching law enforcement, security and military about the function of knives as tools of combat and personal defense. In that time I have learned there are many styles of tactical knives that can work well for the intent of their design. Thus the knives in my Signature Line are the expression of the form and function I prefer in a tactical knife.” - Jared Wihongi
