Browning Christmas Tree Raises $25,000 for Kids.
Release Date: 11/29/2012
The Annual Festival of Trees Benefitting the Primary Children’s Medical Center.
The Festival of Trees is an ongoing fundraiser in Utah for one of the most time-honored charity hospitals in the western United States: The Primary Children's Medical Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. All across the state, groups create unique, special Christmas trees that are auctioned off with the proceeds going to the hospital's charitable efforts. For 42 years, the Festival of Trees has been a “Gift of Love” to children at Primary Children's Medical Center. The Festival is organized by volunteers who enlist time and talents from thousands of individuals, organizations, businesses, and families throughout Utah. Over $30.8 million has been raised for children at Primary Children’s Medical Center through the Festival since 1971, with $1,655,931.40 raised in 2011. A number of children of Browning employees and their families have personally benefited from this great charitable effort over the years.
Adding some Camo to the festival. Browning employees, family members and Browning partners got together this year to create a special "Browning" tree for the auction: loaded with camo and with a hunting camp theme. The committee -- headed by a Browning employee family member -- met in the early part of October to plan the special tree. It all came together on November 17 when the tree, decorations and all the presents around the tree were assembled.
Special rules must be followed, including adding internal rebar for strength, a special stand and clamp supports to assure that the tree and stand are strong enough for all the decorations and strong enough to withstand a move after the festival ends. It was like setting up a huricane-proof treestand.
Many, many people were involved in the project doing setup and creating decorations, including Browning R&D craftsmen (who made decorations with advanced EDM machines), maintenance staff, and dozens of others from sales, customer support, accounting . . . nearly every department here at Browning in Morgan, Utah. An incredible Browning Edition Sportsman® Polaris off-road vehicle was provided by Browning here in Morgan. Browning gear from different product lines added to the package.
Browning partners help create the hunting camp. In addition, Browning partner licensees jumped in to help. Our partners for Browning Gifts, Casual Sportswear and Signature Automotive products (SPG) donated 10 boxes of Browning Buckmark ornaments. Browning Camping partner (ALPS Mountaineering) provided a hunting tent, two Browning camp chairs, two cots and two sleeping bags. Browning partner Camp Chef provided a Browning camping stove, a large dutch oven, two small dutch ovens, and a dutch oven fry pan. Browning Sporting Bags and Travel Gear provided backpacks. Also, four Browning lanterns and a Browning Ammo Box topped off the package.
Early on the morning of November 26, the committee drove to the South Towne Expo Center south of Salt Lake city using a moving truck donated by a local Browning dealer, to haul the tree, the ATV and the rest of our gear to the Expo Center. The crew went to work with the goal of making the Browning Tree "The Best There Is" at the festival.
The lucky bidder was Robert Peterson of the Utah company, LifeStrength, who bid $25,000 for the Browning tree and all the Browning gifts (see photo at right). All the proceeds go to the Primary Medical Center efforts.
Over the years, the Festival of Trees has been copied many times throughout the United States and Canada. However, the Salt Lake City Festival of Trees remains the original.
Crowds pushed in close to see all the gear on display.
The Browning tree took an extra spot over normal displays to create the hunting camp and provide room for all the goodies.
