Going forward from SHOT Show 2009.

2009 just may have been one of the most watched SHOT Shows in history. Not just because of all the Browning on-line excitement with the blog and videos, but because most gun owners wanted to see what the industry would offer in the midst of tough economic times and with the potential for challenges ahead politically.

We don’t claim to know the future, but a few things were clear: Contrary to popular fears, the SHOT Show was well attended and enthusiasm was high. Information from the NSSF indicates attendance rose 3 percent when compared to the Show’s last visit to Orlando in 2007. According to preliminary figures, this year's Show attracted 25,384 attendees, 22,098 exhibiting personnel and a record 1,425 members of the media for a total attendance of 48,907.

Clearly 2009 was a banner year for Browning SHOT Show specials, so be sure to check them out on our website.

We were happy to provide many of the hit new products at the Show. First was the new Browning Maxus autoloader shotgun which garnered constant crowds (including many repeat visitors from our competition). Another popular product, introduced as a SHOT Show special, was the Browning AR34F Tactical Safe. There has never been a safe like it before. With all the attention given to tactical products at the Show, its timing is perfect. The latest digital camouflage on a number of Browning rifles and shotguns was also very popular with retailers and customers.

We can all learn a few things from the SHOT Show. Our industry is strong. Gun owners and gun dealers alike are good, honorable, family-oriented people who want to continue the great American tradition of individual gun ownership and the positive activities that go along with guns. “Tactical” was bigger than ever this year, and there are still thousands of gun dealers who wanted to know everything Browning is doing for hunters and shooters in 2009. That’s good news for all of us.
