Browning eBlast
Goodbye Summer - Say Hello to the Hunting Seasons.

Summer was nice but it's good to get back to the business of hunting. This month's eBlast issue is unique with two main stories. One is about the past and the other about our future.

The Browning Buckmark logo is equivalent of the Nike "swoosh" in the hunting and shooting business. And for the first time ever, the story of the Browning Buckmark has been documented for history. This fascinating article was written with the help of those who were actually there and reveals the personal effort required to make the Browning Buckmark logo a reality.

Just weeks ago more than 2,000 young shooters assembled for the Scholastic Clay Target Program Nationals in Sparta, Illinois. This was the SCTP's largest gathering ever. We highlight the achievements of five boys from Utah who took their dream to Sparta and returned with an impressive third-place finish and memories to match.

The Origin of the Browning Buckmark.

The Browning Buckmark is an integral part of the Browning brand. Over the years it has become deeply rooted in Browning culture, being displayed not only on Browning products, but by Browning enthusiasts on trucks, equipment, ATVs, airplanes, military Humvees - just about any place you can think of - as a personal show of brand loyalty. But it wasn't always that way. In the history of Browning, the Buckmark is a fairly recent addition.

The Buckmark logo was designed in the summer of 1977 by then Browning art director Don Bailey and was introduced in Browning literature and advertising in 1978.

Browning Transitions and X-Bolt: Win Best of the Best from Field and Stream Magazine.
Gear of the Year Awards

Gear of the Year AwardsEach year Field and Stream magazine takes the best of the new year's hunting and outdoor products and puts them through the torture test to determine "The Best of the Best." These products rise above the others in innovative design, quality, and functionality. And of course, they have to live up to the demands of real hunters who, in this case, are the picky, hard hunting, almost fanatical editors and staff at Field and Stream magazine. Well, the results are in and the winners of this extraordinarily grueling competition are detailed in the September 2008 issue.

For us in the industry it is apparent that simply being in the test is an achievement on its own, because not everyone gets past the first review. But in the end, Field and Stream took a close look at almost 500 entries divided into 11 categories. In the end Browning got the ultimate recognition in two of the categories, clothing and rifles, for new Transitions Apparel System and for the new Browning X-Bolt bolt action rifle.

Scholastic Clay Target Program shooters have a local Browning connection.
Scholastic Clay Target Program shooters
Clay Dusters

A record 2,100 young shooters from 35 states competed in Sparta, Ill., at the 2008 Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) National Championships.
Browning is particularly proud of a local team of young men who competed in this year's event. The team is comprised of shooters in the Varsity classification from the Brigham City and Ogden areas of northern Utah. Ogden is where John M. Browning, the founder of Browning, was born and is the place where he designed his huge portfolio of history making firearms. Team members, coached by Ardith Stitt of Eden, Utah, are big fans of Browning. The team includes Craig Stitt of Eden, Utah (Captain); Colton Anderson of Brigham City, Utah; Jackson Tuckett of Syracuse, Utah; Nolan Stokes of Plain City, Utah; and Coltin Dickamore of Brigham City, Utah.
They are officially called the Clay Dusters, but after the team's first day total score of 496 out of 500, they were tagged with the name the 5-Alls by the spectators because of their consistent shooting. When word got out across the Sparta trap fields, about 400 spectators gathered to watch as they made a number of incredible runs as a team. The competition was intense with two other leading SCTP teams, the Waterfall Valley Clay Busters and the Nighthawks.
